![]() ![]() When it was new it outdid even Waldorf’s commercial clone plugin - and Waldorf were the main successors to the PPG legacy. Unlike 10-15 years ago, there are several good soft+hard wavetable synths that can sound basically like a PPG including Behri’s, but I still have fond memories of that plugin. ![]() ![]() Basically every instrument made by Ensoniq before ~1995 is “deserving” of a solid recreation, and it seems like everyone lucky enough to have one of their effects processors still treasures them as well.Īlso, I have a little space in my heart still for the old freeware PPG Wave clone by Hermann Seib, who I now see was/is part of the Behringer PPG clone development team. Arturia recently released their own take on a SQ/ESQ plugin that I haven’t tried yet, and I expect that it’s probably as great as most of their other softsynths - but SQ8L was perfectly good in its time, and free. Kind of not where this thread was aiming at with synths rather than mixing/mastering plugins, but I mostly miss SQ8L - the freeware softsynth clone of the Ensoniq SQ80/ESQ1. ![]()
